i want to breed my pygmys this year and there starting to go into brumation and was wanting to know how to setup the incubator for them atm i got some aquarium gravel of around 5cm at the bottom and then some chicken wire for the containers to go on but im not sure what type of containers i need atm i have some chinese containers with holes in the and if thats all i need the what do i put the eggs on in the conataners (sand, gravel etc)

any advice would help thanks

What kind of incubator setup are you going for? Just asking as I'm not sure why you have aquarium gravel in an incubator...

The incubator I used when I breed PBDs was pretty much a sealed CD ply box that is lined with heat cords all round with the thermo probe suspended in the middle of the tubs so that temp is just right.
For the last few years I have used SIM tubs for the eggs and I preferred this to the takeaway containers I used in the past - sure they cost more but I believe I had higher hatch rates using the SIM tubs than with the other incubation methods I used.

alright and yeah i will get a heat cord, thermometer and thermostat and what are SIM tubs?

edit: i thought that they needed humidity so i was going to moisten the gravel to raise the humidity

Yeah sorry about that - SIM Tub = Suspended Incubation Method Tub
Basically the eggs sit above the water level and this creates an ideal humidity level.

Here is a link to one of the site sponsers that shows a photo and video of them, only problem is that they are out of stock at the moment:
SIM Tubs Suspension Incubation Tubs - Aquarium and reptile online shop in Melbourne. Specialise in Baby Turtles, Lizards, Frogs and Pythons also for sale!

I got a couple a few years back and they worked for me. Not everyone likes them however so it's really personal preference.

Alright thanks heaps for the advice and it doesn't matter to much if there outof stock still got heaps of time ananyway
edit:do you use vermiculite or something at the bottom of the containers

Just water on the bottom.

Pictures don't work? Great... now uploading pictures doesn't work for me as well...

Alright don't worry about the pics ill just look them up and what temps did you keep them at?

Attempt two using the guide. Picture uploading always worked for me before so not sure what has changed.
