My neighbours alerted me of a snake in their backyard so I went to help them out, the snake was a green tree snake which I often see that same one every year. the poor guy has some damage done to him which appears to have occurred over 24hrs ago. to me it looks like a rat has had a go at him and I am wondering is there anything I can do to better his chances? I have him in a tub with heat on him and can take him to the vet tomorrow morning.I took some photos that may help to see the damage but can not upload via my mobile :/. The damage site is too large to amputate. Any help is greatly appreciated! the injury is down to the bone and approx 10cm in length towards the tail but around the opposite side of the cloaca

Ring wires? They have specialised carers that may be able to provide some immediate treatment or have vets on call that may be able to treat before tomorrow morning

You'd be surprised just how hardy D. punctulata are. So much so that it's actually rare to find one in my area which doesn't have some decent battle scars.

Whatever you do don't add a water bowl in the enclosure, keep it on newspaper or paper towel and keep the enclosure as dry as possible. leave it alone until you get it to the vet.

I'd be very surprised if they don't just stitch or glue the wound, I'd be doubly surprised it it didn't recover.

P.S don't ring wires, some of the carers in "wildlife organizations" don't have the slightest clue what they are doing, especially since most are allowed to care for injured wildlife after a simple half day course.
Get it to the vet and tell them it's a wild animal, they will treat it free of charge.

should of either lefted it alone or took i to the vet straight away as its illegal to take a wild snake into your house evan if your a licened snake catcher

actually its illegal to even touch a reptile in the wild, so taking it to the vet or even moving it off the road so it doesn't get hit is illegal.... jinin if you feel the injury is bad enough to take it to the vet, then good for you. The injury was probably from a cat but most heal by themselves anyway good luck

I don't believe it is illegal to take injured wildlife to the vets in Queensland, is it different in NSW?

How ridiculous are our laws that you must break them to do what's right

Not illegal to take wildlife to vets.... Poor snake. Good on you for wanting to help him :)
