Diamond Python help

I just noticed my male diamond python (about 3.5yo) sitting at the bottom of the tank with his head in the water bowl. He didn't appear to be drinking, just sitting there. Is that normal? He's never done it before. He has no breathing problems and definitely shows no sign of sickness, however he hasn't displayed that behavior before.

My male does that occasionally too but my female doesnt. Don't think it is anything to worry about but initially I thought it might have been mites though it wasnt thankfully.
