Came in the post on Wednesday. I completed a venomous snake relocation course with Johnno from ERD last year. Did my first aid certificate with Australia wide first aid for $95 in January. Put in for the permit a couple of weeks later.
No interview with the ranger or anything.
Now I have a damage mitigation permit for all least concern reptiles, so anything that's not endangered.
Almost seems too easy.
Anyone else have a harder time getting one?

Qld DMPs seem very easy to get a hold of these days.
I know of a few people that have recently got theres that aren't very competent handlers, don't have much experience & probably couldn't even ID all snakes in the area...

No mate, need to do ven husbandry course after you done your re-locators course than apply for the keepers permit.
I believe that the course you have done will be suffice along with letters of recommendation from other keepers of restricted reptiles.

Oh that's good to know. Might be a hard sell getting my house mate to feed vens while I'm away on FIFO but. He's happy to water the pythons but not any vens

Unfortunately a few people who had only completed the relocation course with ERD were awarded their specialist endorsement without completing and further training, despite our references only recommending they are awarded a DMP. We have since instructed DEHP that this isn't to occur - the skills taught during the relocation course aren't sufficient for maintaining captive elapids.
