I was wandering through the Darwin botanic gardens the other day when I had a totally humiliating experience.
I saw a crowd of people around the base of a large tree, snapping away at an animal high up in the branches. It was a massive exotic. An African Rock Python I think, so I promptly called the local snake catcher.
Turns out it's a sculpture - obvious with the benefit of hindsight, so I slunk off in shame, without a photo, leaving the tourists to snap away.
Begs the question why wouldn't the curators put up a sculpture of a native or else a plaque. Mine wasn't the first call to the snake catcher.
