I'm up in Mossman Mareeba area

i was visited by this stunning little guy and have no idea what it ia
I presume some kind of wasp

i couldn't think of a better place to try find and Id than here

the jewel Wasp sometimes called emerald cockroach Wasp,they catch roaches and lay eggs inside them(while still alive) once the larvae hatches they eat the host.

It's not actually an emerald cockroach wasp or a jewel wasp.
What they have here is a species of parasitic cuckoo wasp (also sometimes referred to as an emerald wasp)

The Emerald cockroach wasp belongs to the family Ampulicidae whilst this cuckoo wasp in the picture is actually in the very large family Chrysididae.

As to what species specifically I am not sure as there are over 300 species.

Nice picture though, they are awesome to see
