Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before?
I only just noticed this on my 3yr old stimmie. It appears he has a few very superficial dry cracks on his scales in a specific area. Each scale in this area has a small split on the surface.

He has a large bowl of water so should be well hydrated. I recieved him a week ago through air freight.
Could this be due to the stress of a new environment?

I will be taking him to the vet if it continues on but wanted to get some opinions too.

Thanks!

Can't see the image very clearly, but is it possible he may be about to shed?

My Woma always has patchy looking skin just prior to a shed.
This was her about 10 mins before it all came off.
It all came off normally and in one piece.

My own Stimmie can have a few odd looking scales from time to time, but these patches always clear up with the next shed.

Most issues with odd looking scales are no problem and will clear themselves up in a couple sheds.

It's always a great idea to take any new pet to see a vet (make sure you find someone you specialises in reptiles) just to make sure they're 100% from the start.

But I do believe the issue will clear itself up with a shed or two

Unfortunately thats the best I can get :( he only just shed last Saturday and it was a complete shed.
And yes, I was planning on taking him to the vet for a general checkup this week just to make sure he was all good :)

To me it looks like the scales have been pulled backwards causing them to bend, scales shouldn't crack because they are flexible. Snakes use their scales to grip surfaces, they can climb rock walls that way. If someone was trying to retrieve an escaping Snake and pulled it backwards, this can happen. I would imagine that it will be good after a couple of sheds, if your concerned, consult a reptile vet.
