We at AFT have been working with/observing this species for well over a decade and were the first organisation to note their decline and make it public back in 2011, some 2 years before Dr Bruce Chessman in 2013.
The story from the Wingham Chronicle back in 2011.

Their population is fragmented however, more abundant than some think. Their numbers are dwindling in areas towards the coast where they used to be encountered frequently because the lower reaches of the Manning is now overrun with the introduced Murray river turtle which is highly aggressive and more than twice the size of F. purvisi and they are effectively being displaced. Manning River turtles are more abundant the further you get up into the Manning system and its tributaries where Murray's have not yet invaded.

AFT will continue to work with this unique species and bring it into the captive trade.
