Hi all

I'm going on a 2.5 week holiday.

I have 2 6 - 8 month old carpet pythons who are currently feeding weekly. Both very good feeders.

My question is will it be ok to feed right before I leave and then 17 days later when I arrive home?
If so should i give them a bigger meal than usual before I go?

Thanks!

When going away I generally feed my animals a week or so before leaving, which ensures I'm there if there's any subsequent problem with the feed (eg regurg). I don't feed any closer than that to the day departure. I definitely wouldn't increase the feed size before going in case this causes your snake issues - you won't be there to identify any problems. If your snake is reasonably healthy now, it will survive very well without eating for 17 days or longer. Just make sure it has all the usual basics - water, heat, and a secure cage.

2.5 weeks is nothing for a python, it's not even like skipping breakfast, more like having lunch an hour late. Assuming you're in Australia, it's actually not even natural to give them continuous weekly feeding right through winter (not that natural is usually best mind you).

+1 to everything adderboy said, especially about not giving them an unusually large meal before you leave.

I’ve had this same question, so this is super helpful. Thanks guys!!

I just went away for 8 days and had someone check my snakes temp and top up their waters (and feed the dog everyday) but she isn't a confident snake handler so I had another person who is on stand by in case of an emergency. What I did was feed my snakes a week before we went so they would all poo as usual and I could clean them up etc before I left. Then no feed the Sunday before we went we left on Tuesday so no poo whilst we were away, then I fed them the day I got back. They were perfectly fine just snatched their food when offered as probably a little hungrier then usual as they get fed weekly.

Thanks all!

You're a huge help. I figured they would probably be totally fine but these answers are reassuring.
