Hey guys this is my first forum post here and I just wanted to show you guys my Blue Tongue Skink Harry!, I only got him recently and have built him an enclosure out of Melamine I got recently, Unfortunately the enclosure is really big so buying substrate is a fair bit of a hassle price wise. (if you have any suggestions for cheap bulk substrate lmk) Anyways here are some photos of Harry.

Hi Jarrad,

Welcome.

I'm not sure what substrate is appropriate for lizards or if it differs much from pythons - however I was considering using Aspen until I found what it was going to cost me.

Someone here put me onto Brunnings COIR at bunnings (say that 6 times real fast LOL). It's cheap as. For $2 you can have around 30 Litres once it's uncompacted, but make sure you get the right stuff - as you don't want the stuff that slowly releases fertilizer. (I'm repeating what someone else told me - I'm not that knowledgable myself :) )

Here's a link: https://www.bunnings.com.au/brunnings-9l-coir-power-coir-peat-brick_p3023170

The local Bunnings shop didn't have it in stock and had no interest in stocking it - so I requested it as a special order and got a few, and as a result now they also have some on their shelf locally too. :) (Didn't cost any extra to get them to order it in).

There's not a huge amount of info about it on the internet, but the Americans seem to have a similar product branded Reptichip which there's a lot of youtube information on.

More about this (and my mistakes) can be found on the other thread at https://www.aussiepythons.com/forum/threads/how-far-does-aspen-bedding-go.225353/

Again - I'm not sure if this would be suitable for our legged friends or if there is something more suitable (I'm only a beginner to Herps myself so please take my post with a grain of salt) but I'm sure others will chime in if there is. Seem to be some great people on this forum always willing to help.
