Hi Jarrad,
Welcome.
I'm not sure what substrate is appropriate for lizards or if it differs much from pythons - however I was considering using Aspen until I found what it was going to cost me.
Someone here put me onto Brunnings COIR at bunnings (say that 6 times real fast LOL). It's cheap as. For $2 you can have around 30 Litres once it's uncompacted, but make sure you get the right stuff - as you don't want the stuff that slowly releases fertilizer. (I'm repeating what someone else told me - I'm not that knowledgable myself
)
Here's a link:

The local Bunnings shop didn't have it in stock and had no interest in stocking it - so I requested it as a special order and got a few, and as a result now they also have some on their shelf locally too.
(Didn't cost any extra to get them to order it in).
There's not a huge amount of info about it on the internet, but the Americans seem to have a similar product branded Reptichip which there's a lot of youtube information on.
More about this (and my mistakes) can be found on the other thread at

Again - I'm not sure if this would be suitable for our legged friends or if there is something more suitable (I'm only a beginner to Herps myself so please take my post with a grain of salt) but I'm sure others will chime in if there is. Seem to be some great people on this forum always willing to help.
