Some pet shops are worthwhile.
There are three specialist reptile shops in SA that sell quality reptiles, two have freshwater crocs as displays. There is also a display of adult lace and mertans monitors. And one has the largest diamond I have ever seen, I think the animal is in its teens.

There is also a pet shop nearby whose display leaves a lot to be desired and the counter staff don't no much about reptiles, but the cages are clean and the animals look healthy so someone there knows what they are doing.

from same parents but older definetly not 7 ft at 18 months old he is now nearly 3. have you seen there mertens in there? they are awesomesame as there olives. the biggest olives i have seen mine are only 7-8 ft small compared to them.

cant remember seeing mertens...or olives! lol i may be blind...

would be sweet to see barroni's in captivity. would love to see how big they could get

there is a tracking program with them ( radio transmitters ) on the burrup peninsula. me and rach went out one night and two were found. Awesome to see huge wild ones only 20 k's from town. really puts things in perspective. if you want to see these beauties do a google search for ' pilbara olive python ' and i think the site to look at is 3rd. has some great pictures africa.

I don't have a prob with REPTILE ONLY SHOPS as the owner usually has a general interest in herp and probable like us but decided to open a store, I think thats fine....BUT mixed petshops I don't like, it stems from when I was younger living in Melb. feeling sorry for all the stumpies and blue tongue housed in with the birds covered in bird poo, skinny and half dead, the poor turtle about 50 in a small pond stacked up on top of each other, the ones on the bottom were dead, SPECIALIZATION is the key

i definetly agree with you marc you can tell the shops that care are the ones with mainly reptriles not dogs, cats, birds and fish.

cheers Ricko

right near the front counter? what are we talking about here...all they have at the front counter is laceys and some huge olives last time i looked! oh and some massive long necked turtles

amazing amazon and australian bird and reptile co are the worst i have seen sheds are still in cages and are broken reptiles covered in mites if you go to these places burn your clothes before you get home those two shops are horrible
