The Death Sentence

I had a few thoughts on the way home today... Yes, sometimes I think... But I was listening to the Triple J news and they were talking about the Melbourne shootings.

Now Hudson (the murderer) was under close watch in the suicide cells last night for hurting himself. He apparently underwent surgery...

Now I am not a big believer in the death penalty... But:

What if someone pleaded guilty to morder (which in Hudson's case would be wise I assume) should he be given the choice to carry out his life sentence in jail or be given the option of assisted suicide (lethal injection etc).

The reason I say this is:

He probably can never be reabilitated sucessfully (well, it's unlikely).

He costs the tax payer a lot of money to rot in our cells.

He probably wants to kill himself anyway, so why shouldn't we let him?

Maybe the family of the victims can allow it if Hudson wants to kill himself?

I don't know. But if you want to agree, disagree or write a comment please feel free to do so. I am just putting it out there.

The argument of costing alot of money to keep him in jail is not really valid because with all the legalities of capital punishment it actually costs a hell of alot more to kill someone than keep them in jail.

the death penalty (aside from being wrong on moral grounds) is as close to a punishment in my eyes as just releasing him

I think the guards should turn their backs next time he tries to kill himself, I hate suicide, my best friend shot himself, but, my best friend was fourteen and Hudson is a jackass, murderer!

Having said that, if Hudson really wanted to kill himself, he would have broken his neck, not his wrist ...

The guy had given himself up - if he didn't he would have been shot by the police or by the HA - who are not happy about the heat he has caused them.
So I’d say ever way he wont have long to live – if he doesn’t do it someone else will.

Death penalty should exist, 'Too many scumbags not enough bullets'. Most offeneders are recidevists [spelling?] with no hope of reabilitation. Talk to someone who works with them and they'll agree.

give me a break....
state condoned murder is still murder.

but i will accept one kind of death penalty:
old age, after life in jail

incidently, in US states that instituted the death penalty for rape, they found that rather than the rape rate decreasing, the murder rate jumped ALOT...
afterall... who is the main witness in a rape case....

Death Penalty is stupid if they want to kill them self then killing them is doing it for them without the guilt, now rotting in jail for a crime is still not going to bring an innocent he killed bak but suposably (sp?) give the family relif to know that he's paying for what he's done to there son/father/husband and what not. All in all he should not get death but should get his eternal life in prison rather than a life sentance (25years).

i think by killing them its giving them the easy way out, though in saying that prison just isn't quite harsh enough for some criminals, such as ivan millat for eg. i think they should let the victims family decide the fate of the crims in such cases as the back packers murders.
the problem with capital punishment is too many innocent people have been locked up for things they have not done.... only to be released many years later with a "oops sorry"
its a bit late if u killed them only to find out later they were innocent.

The bloke is a Hells Angel. If he goes to prison he'll be with his fellow Angels and out in 10-15 years! I think for crimes against kids (molestering, kiddy porn) Death. For rape, death. For 1st degree murder, death. For everything else how about when they get life in prison it means life in prison. They don't get out until the die, either of old age or knifed but some bloke called bubba in the showers. If they are sentenced to 20 years then they ONLY get out after 20 years is up. No good behaviour, what a load that is.

I have read it can cost up to $100,000 a year to keep someone in gaol. I agree with death penalty i dont see the point in keeping them in gaol for the rest of there life.

i also believe in branding! a big tattoo across their foreheads..... eg. pedophile, rapist, murderer etc!

on the topic, public stoneings would be the best thing ever if they could implement it! the victims family first, then everyone else after that! i would pay big money to throw rocks at a convicted criminal!
