It's the 1st day of my annual month long holiday and I'm spending it in the yard doing some overdue plant maintenance and getting up close and personal with the wildlife.

Lucky this guy's camouflage wasn't as good as my eyesight as he almost met the pointy end of my loppers. I'm not 100% certain of the species of stick insect, but I'm pretty sure it's a Titan stick insect - Acrophylla titan.

It's a nice big female Acrophylla. Location is important for identifying species in many animal groups, phasmids being one of them. Probably titan though. Very nice find!
