I'm currently in NSW and own 4 morelia, and looking at ACT licensing you apparently need to own a turtle or lizard for 2 years before you can get a snake :|. If i was to move to ACT would this mean i could not bring my snakes over onto an ACT license? Does my time on NSW license count for anything? Wondering if anyone else been in this situation.

You can bring your pythons with you, in my experience it was a straight forward and painless process. Your prior experience counts as long as you can provide evidence, ie. your NSW license records. The species list and requirements are out of date, but licensing is currently working on updating things.

But you people would rather have the same service from the licensing that NSW has?
In my experiences, anything not listed is a cat. C. And any issues I have had are handled within a week or thereabouts.

Elapids are pretty much a no no from what I was told.. unless you can really prove to them you can look after them.

actually if you look into all aspects they are higher maintenance, more often fed which leads to more often cleaned etc etc etc pythons are in fact very easy care pets. Wouldn't you think that would make them a better choice for most people now-days.

I've actually had no issues at all with NSW licensing service. It's even better now everything is done instantly online.

My main question is why would anyone be silly enough to be wanting to move to ACT???????? unless of course it is for the porn and the fireworks

Looking at it now I clearly quoted Vamps' post instead of the one before it, but thank you so dearly for pointing it out, did you think possibly I was agreeing either way?

Back in the day I remember that the ACT was special in that you could legally buy X rated porn, fireworks and turtles. Fireworks has since become illegal in the ACT many years ago. And although your not allowed to buy X rated porn in most Australian states, you are allowed to purchase it off the internet and have it sent to your place legally. So this kinda trumps the ACT porn industry in my opinion.

I don't know much about the turtle laws although the pet stores in the ACT are allowed to display and sell a small selection of reptiles (including eastern bluetongues). So it's similar to VIC in some ways.

I had the licensing problem when I had to move for work 8 months ago and decided to settle in Queanbeyan, just outside ACT for these reasons. Good choice because it's the cheapest place to live for miles around (and it's still expensive).
