Hi all, apologies if this has been brought up before but I can't find decent information about this anywhere.
I currently use Kritter's crumbles/Reptibark as a substrate for my JCP and Diamond (both indoor) but I'm looking into using an alternative such as organic ground mulch/bark from Bunnings as it's cheaper for what you buy (I know organic cane mulch can be used). Had a look at Tea tree mulch when I was there last and I'm wondering if I could use it as a safe substrate as it looks natural, is organic and is environmentally friendly, any thoughts?

Here's a link to some general information about the Tea Tree mulch I was looking into if anyone's interested... Hope it's within the site rules; http://www.rpmulching.com.au/mulch/tea-tree-mulch

No idea about the tea tree stuff but I've been using that eucymulch stuff for over two years (though I haven't tried it for my woma yet)and my babies are fine.

Reptibark is what I use as well, but isn't mulch damp?

I only used the tea tree stuff once. It was very dusty when dry. It also has a very strong smell. Used coconut peat as well, was also too dusty when used dry.

Found Eucalyptus mulch to be a bit better. Honestly, I only use newspaper now, as I feel it's a better substrate but may not be to your liking (aesthetically).

3 subs I use for all reptiles are:
1. Natrual red dessert sand
2. Coco fibre
3. Paper towle

I use coco fibre for my diamond costal hybrid (sorry thats probably a swear around here haha) . You can buy it in dehyrated brick form from bunnings for a couple of dollers. You just soak it in water and it expands into lose sub.

Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate it. I'll look into the Euc mulch & coco fibre stuff.

I use reptibark and I love it!!
I find it can last for ages, when it's getting dirty I take as much of it as I can out and soak it with some small detergent and then put it on a large tray or newspaper etc out in the sun to dry :)

Organic Sugar Cane Mulch is good. Not terribly dusty, and smells nice and fresh, too. My Blue-Tongue loves it. I just stick with newspaper/butchers paper for my pythons.
