any birding enthusiast able to ID this duck. definitely not native.
violet speculum, not Anas platyrhynchos nor superciliosa hybrid as underwing coverts are chestnut, not white, plumage is generally chestnut and not streaked nor mottled. bill is bluish not greenish.
photographed at Marble Bar, WA

sorry about the quality, photo taken from several hundred metres away

Mate, you need a better lens, something like Canon 400mm f2.8 would do. :D

I'm not good with ducks but id have to agree with Huntem? Looks like the normal ones found at any local dam.

Pacific black ducks do have that flash of blue feathers on their wings but the faces are not usually so full of white...more stripey I think,
anyway
The pic dosnt help and I am no expert or bird enthusiast, but when I used to shoot ducks I became familiar with the common species.
I havnt shot a duck for 20 years at least now and save my ammo for ferals.

Looks like my contribution to this thread is the most relevant one after all. LOL

No but neither did anyone else so far. My suggestion may lead to better photos and then positive ID without guessing. Smart eh?

100% Pacific Black Duck, nice eating bird although the Teal species are better!

why? got one for sale cheap

not sure if Mallards are here in aust but could be a female

There are some populations of Mallards in areas of the country, They are vermin
and maybe shot at any time, They are a major problem as they do breed with the
Pacific Black duck. The crosses are very easy to spot even when in flight!
