Hey, does anyone have any clues on what may be happening here?
A healthy 8 year old Bredls, always eats, in great condition, started spending active time in the water (not just soaking) a few days ago. DOESN'T have mites, have been to the vets already (awaiting blood results) Temperatures good, did a massive faecal drop, thought that would be the end of it, but still fascinated by the water! Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thanks

Just a possibility - it seems odd that larger pythons seem interested in water in the cooler months, but bodies of water remain much more temperature stable during cooler weather, if the ambient temps fluctuate a fair bit, and this stability can be something they seek out even in quite cold weather. If it's eating well and otherwise looking healthy, a vet visit and blood tests are probably unnecessary. I'll be surprised if bloods show any abnormal pathology.

Thanks for that

But bloods just in and doesn't look good at all ....possible kidney failure ?

That's not good news. Our first bredli had a tumour that undiagnosed by the vet wrapped around her heart.
Fingers crossed that there is something that can be done.

Hmmm, that's not good news at this point - just shows I shouldn't jump to conclusions. Does that mean the behaviour you describe could be driven by failing kidneys? Please keep us posted.

Jamie

No, there were a bunch of things on blood, kidneys only one option, inflammation, possible cancer, possible etc etc etc and others but at this stage starting on Antibiotics with a view to knocking her out for an endoscopy to see what's going on inside if no improvement. Meanwhile, she's still hanging around the water looking for the most part normal

Thanks for update M.s.s, sounds like a few possibilities, some more sinister than others. Tumours are not uncommon in our snakes unfortunately, so hopefully that's not what it turns out to be...
