just asking a question about jags or rms what ever you want to call them i no there are plenty of people in sa with them but i have been talking to some people and they are ademant they can not be kept in sa i disagree with them but thought i would ask the question and find out from some people that may no this answer.
cheers mick

Sorry but your friends are correct.
I remember a story last year when a breeder had 14 hatchies taken away and euthanased.

if that was true how could sxr sell the hundreds that they do i no theres no crossing allowed in sa like bredli to a darwin but thought rms were ok

you are permitted to keep jags in sa. i have talked directly to sonia who issues alll of us with our permits. those pythons that got taken away were bredli crosses. thats why they were confiscated.

not disagreeing with you but its all a bit stupid really isnt it , so it sounds like if those bredlis had of had the jag gene then they would of been left to live , but because they had no jag in them then they must die , once again the department show just how stupid they really are

i wish they would make up their minds either all cross breed reptiles are in or out.

so if i have some hypo rms jungles they are fine thanks for clearing it up a bit

I know someone who supplies mice and rats to the person and they were bredli x jags.
DEWNR is allowing jags because I quote from one of their employees "there are to many of them to be able to control now".
I don't want to out that employee but what message does this send.
On a similar level we aren't allowed to have overseas animals but we can have Jags (developed in Nederlands, further developed in USA) and Indonesian GTP's.
I think the moral of the story is if you want overseas animals just make sure enough like minded people also want them so it is too hard for the department to control and watch them through up their hands in resignation.
And technically a hypo jungle jag should not be allowed since the Jag gene is carried in Coastal Pythons but as long as you don't state that to anyone alls good with DEWNR.
Makes you think DEWNR is just another government department doing nothing but justifying their own jobs!!!

totaly agreed CHRI5. i think we really take it for granted what we have here. i wouldn't change anything really. for once a government department that actually makes scene. just have a look at our interstate departments and people will come to realise that we have it VERY VERY easy.

Do SA recognise the different spilota subspecies or not?

DEWNR do an awesome job & are for the most part very easy to deal with. Have a look at the mess most of the other states are in compared to SA, we have it very easy down here & our licensing system is the envy of many other keepers nationally. We can keep virtually anything we want & a Specialist license is relatively easy to obtain. The law is very clear regarding cross breeding, have any of you actually ever read it? Personally I wouldn't change anything with our system :)

Edited: To quote from the attached DEWNR document:

sorry but they are being a little silly if they will kill off animals that are bredli jags whatever , but allow big breeders to sell animals that are clearly jags , i havent seen nsw do anything like this so no , i dont envy your system , maybe if i was trapped in wa or tasmania but they envy every other states system because their own is so crap

According to the Basic Animals list, Spilota are all listed as 'Carpet Pythons'. I imagine (although I'm not 100% sure) that you cannot breed a Jungle with a Darwin (based upon my previous example of crossing subspecies), can anyone else confirm this? You certainly cannot breed a Bredli with a Jungle.

Seems to be similar to Vic then, all spilota come under carpet python while Bredli have there own species (and also diamonds in vic). If they don't recognise the different subspecies in there own schedules it would make it very hard for them to argue against jungle/MD/darwin Jags in a court of law.

However a Bredli being classed as a seperate species means it is a clear cross.

Y would u wanna cross breed our animals are awesome by them selfs sure jags look nice but give me a natural anyday

They killed them because they were cross breeds between two species, not because they were jags. As people have said, their rules don't recognise M.spilota ssp. so a "normal" jag (eg Jungle x Coastal) isn't against their laws

Isn't Bredli x Coastal Jag no different?
