ill be getting a baby flavirufus soon which will go into a 4 x 2 x 2, being the smaller of the sand goannas would this size enclosure be ok for adulthood or safer to upsize in future ?

If you`re talking metres yes, feet no way, you need to double that (8L x 4W x 4H feet) for an adult, bigger is better, and even a hatchling should thrive in an "adult sized" tank, it will not get lost, be unable to find food or water, heat or cool places! It can be extremely stressful to keep upgrading the enclosure "as the monitor grows".
