Hi everyone,

I know there is a lot on this forum about heating enclosures but I was hoping for a bit of advice.

I have a sub-adult Stimsons python that I am hoping to give a full size enclosure soon. Up until now I have just used a 15W heat cord under its click clack at one end.

I have read that in a vivarium you can either use the heating lamp or the mat/cord. What I don't really understand is how you position a cord or mat. If it goes under the wooden base of the vivarium, I would assume that not much heat would transfer through to inside. I might be wrong though!

Any advice would be really appreciated. Also, if you think the lamp is the best option please could you recommend me which would be best.

Thanks!

Sandwiched between two tiles is the best method for either, with room for excess heat to escape...

Another thing to consider is the type of thermostat to use too
