Cranky
Monster

You got it in two
well done
But actually making progress there
Played with it today and I survived without getting tagged

Urine, you can't beat it imo, it dry's up cuts real quick (although i don't think he would apreciate, not there and then anyways) coz it stings big time in deep cuts. Still, its worth shareing, and i use it on all my bad cuts

I learned it from a book i read by an auther that is renound for extensive research
Wilbur Smith (River God) I think

Good luck with him, he's a good lookin snake too, it's a shame!

p.s, I like ya hat

Hi Longqi,
have you tried it with another feed?

Jeffa
I definitely think it would feed because it is pretty active and is thin even for a wild caught
But the scab is healing well it appears
If I feed it it might break the scab open again????
Thats the only reason I havnt tried feeding it yet
Maybe the stretching would break everything loose??
I am VERY open to advice on this point as I have no idea what would happen as I have never tried fixing head damage this bad before

Joe Blake
Urine is a great curative
Used a lot in traditional medicine
But it does tickle a little bit so I didnt use it in this case
[now where can I find a Vestal Virgin]

When I first saw the injury I thought no way can I save this
But now I am fairly hopeful of a good result
Tough little snake

Great work mate , good to see someone take the time to help a snake intead of killing it .
Have you thought about giving it a few small feeds so it doesnt have to stretch its head as much to get it down ?

cheers nico

Nico
That is one option I have considered
But this is a wild snake that may or may not accept food
Stressing it out may be just as damaging at this point???
It is a bit thin but still strong and probably can go another while without tucker
I am amazed at how much water it is putting away even though it was dehydrated
About 200ml every day and has peed twice
By later in the week I will definitely try a small feed but I am simply unsure at this point
I am really undecided about my next actions here so any advice gratefully accepted

if your in bali you can get antibiotics over the counter at the chemist or pharmacy

I can get limited numbers of antibiotics
But the things I needed for this mess were silverzine or florazine etc because there no signs of infection so antibiotics were not required at this time, and they dont seem to be available anywhere here
Baytril is probably the most commonly used reptile antibiotic and is unavailable except from some doctors or hospitals and they prefer to use their limited supplies on humans [which I can understand]
I am a bit hesitant about using some of the medication here even on myself
So unless I know the complete make up of it I do tend to try other alternatives first

As a classic example I had the flu here
They gave me this stuff that made me feel great
Flew back to Aus and the drug dogs went ape
Tested everything then asked me where the speed was
Only thing that tipped me off was my toothbrush
It blew their metre away
Medication was 75% amphetamine called ephedrine or something but was writen in bahasa and I had no idea
[but I did feel pretty good even if I didnt sleep for a few days]
After they found a translator who inspected the medication they let me go

OMG Longqi....that is so not funny....

How is snakie....youll have to nick name him mowhawk if he pulls through....

^^^^Now that name is bloody brilliant
I would never have thought of it

Two very interesting things have happened
1...Yesterday morning I added cuttlefish bone to his usual water bowl
I also put a much smaller amount of water than usual in a new bowl
Hasnt touched the cuttlefish water but other bowl empty
So I swapped bowls an hour ago
Went straight to the pure water and drank
Ignored the cuttlefish water so far

2.... I decided to offer it a small rat
It hit it and grabbed hold but didnt wrap
After about 5 seconds let it go and tucked its head under the coils
Maybe a pain reflex???

Damn.would like to have had him eat by now yes?bugger.he is a fighter for sure.and maybe opening his mouth so wide pulls the wound, hence pain reflex?will his head scales heal with the same flexability as they were?

Mowhawk is a wild snake so I didnt expect him to feed anyway
a\Happy that he hit the rat
Not so happy about his reaction
Getting more and more confident he?? will pull through
After he heals we will know more about head scars
Maybe will just have to eat small items for a while??

Maybe try something smaller next time so he is not stretching his head area?

Oops just realised that's what you said: )

It sounds like he going quite well, considering.
Odd that he wont touch the cuttlefish water.

He will get it one way or another
I have taken 2 small rats away from the rest
their only water is full of cuttle fish
Next time I try to feed Mowhawk I will try with of one them also dusted in powder
If thats refused Ill kill the other one too and use a straw to blow some powder into its guts

I am so delighted you like the name !!

gosh I hope he eats for you

I guess if he becomes a problem feeder and you are worried it is because of his injury I guess he will stay with you.....

he may well still be in shock....and I cant even begin to imagine the pain......i dread to think what would have happened to him in the wild....a wound like that would have become infected and he would have most likely had a terrible end.

if he has any chance of survival it will be with you.....

i will be so interested to see how that wound heals....it will be so amazing to see if it does
