Hi everyone, I got my spotted python a couple of days ago and so far have left him alone to get settled in. I bought quite a large enclosure as we are going to pimp it out for him and make it as realistic as possible with climbing background and hide caves etc. He's currently in a small plastic container and I've been advised to keep him in the container inside the big enclosure under a 150w infared globe. So far he seems content, but I am worried about him getting too warm as the container is so small, I can't effectively ensure a thermal gradient. I was assured he will be fine as he is approx 90cm from the globe but will attach a picture of his current set for constructive criticism.

I’d get him out of the bigger enclosure ASAP and get a 5w heat mat put underneath, whoever told you it’ll be fine is a silly billy ( it can work out fine but as you mentioned, it’s hard to get a suitable gradient especially in such a small tub)

definitely post pics

do you have a thermostat

Hey thanks for your response! Yes I have a thermostat set to 31degrees. I just took the temp with an ir thermometer and one side of the little tub is 30.3 degrees and the other side is 29degrees. I've got him shuffled over so that the bulb is adjacent with the edge of the box if that makes sense. I've also tucked the thermostat probe under hot side and have watched the light turn off twice now, I assume when it reaches temperature.

This is no good, tubs too small for any gradient

refer to my first post, take the tub out and put a 5-7w heat mat under 1/3rd of the tub
