Sorry if this had already been posted
I just received an email from Australia Zoo from when i signed the petition to save steve's wildlife reserve in northern QLD
this is what it said:

Australia Zoo are so grateful for the support shown in regards to the petition to stop the mining of the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve.

It has come to our attention that Queensland Residents need to sign an official Queensland Government petition for these particular signatures to count.

For all Queensland residents please sign the Queensland Government petition for your vote to count. See link below.

So please all do so

If they get behind saving the Mary river turtles then I will sign theirs.

You have a great point here Rams, they wont go against council to stop the mary river, yet they are asking us to go against council for this. Where is the balance?

If Steve was still here im not sure they would need our signatures...hmmm I wonder

Consider it signed. Let's get behind this great cause guys.

what is the great cause, please. or is it steve irwin's name is attached to it, so it must be great. signing petitions like a mob, just decreases the validity of all petitions. i'm yet to be convinced that the large amounts of land purchased by the irwins have any conservation value at all. it's lovely to say you have set aside land for conservation, but it was all bought ad hoc, mainly cause it was cheap. there were no acquisition plans or research done. so why is it a great cause? what species are we saving. they bought land so as not to pay tax (their adviser was gaoled last week for two years for his dodgy dealings and advice) with no environmental assessment for any site done prior to acquisition.

it may turn out to be a valuable conservation site, but please, tell me what the great cause is, because if it is just because irwin's name is on it, i say dig it up!

Albino-check over what you said, shows you have no knowledge of conservation.

Ramsayi-your not serious are you? Saying you will only help them if they help you? Not the best way of getting things done.

bugger 'em. They only want help when something affecting them is in trouble. The Mary River Turtle issue is in their back yard and they don't care.

I was all for Steve and his efforts when he was alive but now the yank is just interested in commercialising. When they show some true conservation efforts (like saving the Mary River Turtle) I'll re-evaluate my opinion.

Yeah bugger them. I mean if they won't save the Mary River turtle, screw their conservation efforts and animals. I'm not going to support what they want, unless they support what i want.
I got a better idea lets all go to the land that he bought and trash it, that'll show them.

(Maybe think of it as helping the wildlife, not the Irwin's)

i'll second that. and the only thing they are interested in is promoting bloody bindi.
cheers:)

They won't do anything about the turtle.... it's all politics.... They are probably having dinner with Peter Garret tonight laughing about us peasants trying to save a turtle, while discussing their ongoing plan to turn Australia Zoo into Disney Land.

Already signed, got the same email.

Hmm reading now maybe I shouldnt have..

they didnt buy it, it was given to them

but i agree with alot of you
was good was when steve was alive but terri is Americanising it all

Im not doing this for Terri or anyone but the animals that live there

Everyone loves jumping on the band wagon. Whilst I've been a member on this site I've seen this happen so often its hilarious.

Back up what you just said then with some PROOF and then comment on it. Till then go do some reading - the whole point of buying land and setting it aside for conservation is so native animals to that area are not put in jepody. Hey i have an idea, lets come dig up where you live because it has your name on it! I'm sure there is no value in it!

The news does a bloody good job of that themselves. I don't believe Terri has "americanised" (What a bloody stupid term) Australia Zoo, rather we have by gobbling up all the goss about it.

SIGNED!

I have signed it, after all you are right those of you who said it is for the animals and trying to stop mining companies from taking everything this earth has to give.
We have to be a voice for those who cannot speak.
