If the remarks attributed to Chad in the media are accurate, he sounds remarkably stoic about the whole thing. I'd image it will take awhile for the totality of the loss to sink in though.

Poor, poor snakes. Makes me want to cuddle Zephyr, although I know she wouldn't appreciate it!

And condolences to the owner, even though that word and any others I could write seem pitifully inadequate.

If I had a fire, couldn't care less about the materialistic things, but to have your beloved animals all perish. Don't think I would ever recover. So that is why I am thinking of the poor owners and how they have to deal with this.

Those poor reptiles , the terror they must experienced being trapped with no way of escaping from their enclosures and the agony they experienced while being burnt alive.... :(

LEts all hope that it was at least a swift painless death to a majority, unlikely, but we can always hope. Not only has he lost beloved animals, but they were obviously this persons lively hood, and considering the economy over there I hope they recover from this ok.

That's what insurance is for.

Someone mentioned an electrical fault caused this. Has that been verified ? I hope this wasn't arson.

Wouldn't most succumb to inhaling fumes before the flames got them?

Lonqi wrote this response to the faulty wiring question on page 3...

The fire started next door and had nothing to do with heat lamps, heat pads, faulty or home done wiring

I'm still shaking my head over this tragedy. For the fire to start next door as well... my goodness.

Testing and tagging may find a faulty appliance. They are simply testing the insulation resistance of an appliance, the earthing etc and making sure that it is safe to use and that you wont get an electric shock. They don't find hot spots in bad DIY wiring, hot spots created from plugs that are not plugged in correctly (hanging out a bit) etc etc. We used to get a thermal imaging specialist in to check our electrical work out for hotspots. He has a special camera that see's the hotspots in electrical joins, appliances, switchboards, circuit breakers/fuses and so on. But anyway, test and tag is an OH&S thing brought in to protect people form electric shocks.

This story is very sad for the snakes and owners :(

Thermographic surveys of the electrics is something I used to plan and personally coordinate 3 - 4 times a year, we detected a hot 10000V switch on the very first survey and had this thing failed it would have taken out the entire switch board and most of the switch room. Too bad if a sparky had been nearby for the sparky.
Saved a major plant disruption when I called the chief electrical engineer he ordered an immediate mill stop , isolation of the switch and it's immediate replacement.
Amazing how a few minutes with a thermographic camera can save hundreds of thousands of $ and prevent a major plant electrical outage (was told 12 hours - 24 hours).

Makes you wonder if a regular thermographic survey with a printed report with images of overheating circuits (probably $1000 worth of work and a few hours for the thermographer) and immediate feedback to the buslness's owner if an serioys problem were found could have prevented this catastrophy and saved all those reptiles from a horrible and terrifying death.

Though an electrical fault or bodgey wiring in the reptile business wasn't the cause - will be interesting to find out what caused the initial fire (mentioned above started in the business next door - bodgey wiring may still be the cause), been a lot of that kind of thing and suspect arson cases too lately (insurance jobs sometimes by owners of failing businesses). Not saying this is the case here.

Oh my...... That is just.... I'm speechless, those poor, poor animals. These pics and this story brings sadness to my heart.
I'm also feeling for the poor owners of these animals and this establishment, they would be utterly shattered.

Is this the same place/fire from 2009? Hope it hasn't burnt down again!

Thanks for the vid D3pro now everyone knows how the tragic fire started. He seems in high spirit after such a loss good on him for keeping his head up.
