A bhp of mine who has been injured has come across problems while shedding - my concern is that his eye has been retained during the shed. What is the best method about removing this? I have placed a water bowl in the warm end to increase humidity and will be giving him a soak soon, but I am a bit hesitant to 'rub' the 'eye'.

Also what is the protective 'lens' over the eye called? Is it considered a scale?

I recommend using a warm wet cotton bud. You will have to restrain her head, dampen the cotton bud, and using the side of the cotton bud not the tip end, gently rub in circular motion until the skin comes free. It could take a few minutes or you could be there for longer. But be patient and don't stop. Be gentle with the eye - let yourself feel that it is rubbing the eye but try really hard not to apply pressure.
