Hi guys,

New to the forum, joined up because I'm having a few problems with my carpet python. This particular problem is about his skin.

He shed yesterday and it seems that it has pulled some of his scales off. These areas have been a bit scar-like since I got him and haven't caused him any issues that I've been able to tell. After shedding yesterday there's a few areas where it looks like the scales have been pulled off and they look raw and bloody.

What advice can you give me to help treat him? I have tamodine on hand. His heat lamp has always had a cage around it and I've never seen him touching it so I doubt that would have caused this.

I was planning on feeding him either today or tomorrow, should I still feed him or wait a while?

Thanks in advance.

So curiously enough. My python received these injuries right after a shed as well.

Were the spots before the shed a different colour than usual by any chance?
In my case my Jag had dull grey/brown looking scales in patches sporadically all over his body. I figured it would solve itself with a shed, and to my horror all these patches of dull coloured scales are now a bright (and in case of the larger patches) bleeding white.

I contacted a reptile vet in my country through the mail. She told me this was either the result of burns, damage done by mites, or by chafing. And I was told to use betadine ointment as treatment. But in your case maybe a betadine bath may be more helpful?

Preshed with the dull patches pointed out. He had these sporadically all through his body.

2 days after shed. This one of the 2 larger patches that bled. All other scales are now white with sometimes pinkish tips.

In my case.. he was out of my care for a year, and I got him back with the dull patches. He had his (bad) shed maybe 2 weeks later.
