Woohoo, 1 from 1

Occifer Nick
;)

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competit

Yeah that angle made it real hard to see how wide the snout was! i was tossing up between croc and alligator, ended up with 0 from 1.
come on number two... papa needs a new pair of shoes! (or the pythons, whatever ;) )

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competit

Just a hint for future reference, the 4th lower tooth on an alligator fits into a socket in the upper jaw so isn't visible when the mouth is closed.

Made the same mistake, then when slateman said lots of people had the wrong answer from the angle of the photo, I knew I had it wrong.

I knew that info, but it was so hard to see  so I relied on jaw shape as I thought the first one would not be so tricky. Doh!

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competit

yeah i remembered (from my childhood reading books no less), that alligators have an overbite, while crocs' teeth fit into their jaws (or something like that.. i even went and researched it again. But i've already forgotten and it's only a week later!

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competit

Can the reptiles be hybrids, or are they one specific species?

Cheers Alex

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competit

I don't think anyone could be expected to identify a hybrid.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competit

Common names are acceptable, so I don't see why not ;)

Slateman, I am not sure if you realise but 30 pictures at a week each is 30 weeks which is 7 months

Thats one long comp...

RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competition will start s

You have last 3 hours to answer question 2.

RE: Re: RE: Southern Cross Guessing competition will start s

Our second question was not easy also. There is always chance to make mistake between coastal carpet and Darvin carpet. This 2 subspecies look simeler.
Second picture capture; Coastal Carpet Python, Morelia spilota mcdowelli hatchling.

All people who answered this question right are getting 1 point. I could not award point to people who give me just half name like carpet python or Morelia.

Congratulation to all people below guessing the right specie.
