UV needed?

I dont want to create an argument but could someone please explain why lizards need uv and snakes dont? Is it due to the diet of the animals or is it something different? If so why do some people say that blue tongues dont need uv either?

I doubt any reptile truly requires UV if heated and fed correctly, though animals fed on commercially produced insects are obviously more vulnerable to animals like snakes that are eating whole vertebrae prey.
