Now that that I know what the problem was I would agree with spraying with luke warm water. For future reference, wrapping and handling with moist towels or placing in a moist towelling or calico snake bag overnight are usually effective. Am very pleased you had a positive outcome.
Skelhorn, it is worth noting that around 80% to 90% of snakes in the wild do not make it to breeding age. Secondly, a captive snake in not the wild and therefore the requirements differ. So while I do not disagree with your conclusion, I am not in total agreeance with your reasoning.
