My mate just sent me this pic of a snake he caght in his backyard and wondered what it was?Im going to get stuck into him for picking it up(even tho he is bigger than me lol).I was thinking its a marsh snake?It might be only mildly venomous but he didnt know that.

Marsh Snake, Hemiaspis signata. You can see the temporal stripe that continues through the eye - it will also have a labial stripe. Chances are it was found active near water. Where they occur, they are usually very common. Sometimes regarded as harmless, they have proved to deliver a fairly nasty bite to the odd careless herper.
 
It was found at a place called sandy beach just north of coffs harbour and he lives up the top of a hill,but saying that there is a water course about half a kay away.
 
Lol....lucky for your mate that wasn't the Eastern Brown I first thought it was when I saw it.
