when it walks it drags it's body on the ground and it is also very rotund

this might sound like im having a go at you. (i think its a pink tongue by the way due to the shape of the tail) but try to get it to open its mouth, and have a look at its tongue that will probably tell you

yeah i tried that but it kept running away, and if its pregnant i didn't want to stress it out

if you can find say a snail or some other type of food for it just toss the snail towards it. she may let you have a look then

Yep it's a cute looking Pink-Tongued Skink (Hemisphaeridon gerrardii). As someone said, they LOVE snails!!!

Without trying to sound rude but perhaps this should be left alone rather then someone try to force its mouth open. Considering you think it may be pregnant i would have thought you would have considered this.

The way I read i... was that he was suggested to throw a snail to it.... Thus the LIzard would eat it by itself.... NOT FORCED...

But I do agree, if you think its preggers, dont go playing with it......

###### ...With feeding it the Snail...Make sure it hasnt had any access to snail baits...

Hello,

Its a gravid Pink Tongue Cyclodomorphus gerrardii (recent mtdna studies on the have moved them from the monotypic Hemisphaeridon and the blue tongue genus Tiliqua).

Not all specimens have a pink colour to their tongue, so the common name is somwhat misleading and certainly not a means of reliable identification.

Cheers,
Scott

Yeah, i left it alone after i took the photo's and put some banana out for it last night which is all gone this morning as has the lizard so I'm assuming that it has eaten it and moved on.

Pink tongues are snail / slug specialists, and don't usually eat much that far gravid, it was probably using your paved area to get extra heat into the bubs.

some pics of my gravid girl atm
