This poor bugger got sent over to me after a person said they accidently hit it with the whipper snipper. I am still a little worried about it, but it came back together pretty well. atleast its a reptile and wont need to eat for a while. the carer picked it up today so i will know more in a week when she brings it back. sorry about the second pick my camera battery died and my phone camera sucks so its blury. its a coastal carpet by the way.

well it woke up beautifully, and was acting normal enough. it will all depend on whether it heals and weather the oesophagus is useable in the future

its nice to see they were concerned enough to bring it over to you!

Does anyone have have any idea on the prognosis for an injury like this.
I think if I found a snake with a wound like that my first thought would be to euthanase it.

prognosis isnt to bad, but it all depends. The oesophogeal lining heals well. if it is refrained from eating anything large and given time to heal it should be fine.

Ive seen them recover from severe degloving injuries but the site was well
and truely irrigated with saline and infection had to be controlled.
If no internal injuries and stress levels are kept down you can give it a 50/50 chance.

Wow, that's pretty amazing, once it's healed are there any feeding probs?

It also makes me wonder at their healing capabilities because that is a large wound on a small animal.

I once spoke to a wildlife carer specialising in reptiles and he told me some amazing stories about snakes and lizards recovering from whipper-snipper injuries. Hope this one recovers too.

Now do you not see a carpet python :S?
I mean if you don't see a whipsnake or a CTS in the grass that's pretty understandable but a carpet?

its only a small bugger probably about a metre long

Good onya pal. Looks like you did a great job! hope it pulls through.

Crap Gaz... did that one come in today?
Will it be there tomorrow if I get in?
