Hey guys. Just been looking at possibly moving interstate and of course the big question is... Where can I take my beautiful pets!
So I've had a look at some of the state and territory licensing bodies and found some of them really hard to navigate!
To keep it simple I got 2 green tree snakes and a Murray darling python.
Could you guys possibly let me know if these species are aloud in you respective states!
Cheers guys

Queensland, from what I hear they have it a bit easier with the reptiles/licensing...

Cool cheers guys. Only Vic, NT and NSW left =P by the way I'm I'm SA so I know they're alright here haha

Qld has ***d rules u can keep inland taipain as ya first elapid

You can keep both species in Victoria, provided you fill out the right forms for the Department of Sustainability and Environment before and after you 'import' them into the state

But Victoria doesn't? LOL. I'd of thought Vic was worse than QLD... Fill out a form, pay the money and BAM! Anyone can keep vens in Vic, no experience, no courses or anything required from what I've constantly and consistantly heard. QLD is a lot harder and more tedious to get.

I honestly would have thought you'd have a dig at Vic before QLD... Or even Tassie...

you know i was just about to say pretty much the exact same , also think of tasmania , there only aloud elapids as a pet snake , and im pretty sure there allowed to get the licence easy as , they can also collect from the wild from what i know

qld may be aloud to have an inland tia as a first elapid but to get the licence to do so you have to prove that you are capable of doing everything you will need to do to keep them safely

Yeh Vic licence is easy as. U can go for ur advanced licence without having to hold a basic licence before or anything. It pretty stupid down here. But hey i read w.a ones and thats seems a pain in the ***. How each year u can go up a level, but how ur only allowed to keep native animals to w.a

When I was little (3, 4, 5) I used to live in Carnegie...Don't remember it much anymore, lived in SA for 4 years now.

Its not necessarily stupid....I got an advanced licence before my basic because I wanted to keep RSP's. It as just a natural progression to move onto elapids and Im glad I dont have to go through tedious restrictions to do so.

I moved to NSW (and since returned to Vic) and had to argue my case to move my RSP's which I had had for 18 months because they arent on their basic license. I couldnt imagine trying to get a ven across. And that is only for a RBB good luck with a taipan or eastern brown

As far as I'm concerned doing a 1 or 2 day ven course to apply for ven endorsement does not "prove that you are capable of doing everything you will need to do to keep them safely" I have done two ven courses and will apply for specialist permit once I have a stable living environment but I am under no illusions I satisfy any ability to keep tais when I start (or even any time in the near future) even though the permit would allow me to do so.

The venomous snake license system in SA is probably the most logical system in my opinion, and is what adelherper has dealt with so I agree with his statement.

I'd go back to the Territory tommorrow, if circumstances allowed.

i was under the impression , from previous threads on here that you also had to have a written reference from someone stating you are capable of dealing with vens in qld , is this not true ?

Yes, you need two written references which I have from completing the courses. During the course we were advised about some of the species that would be recommended to start with along with a magnitude of other information as well as practical handling techniques and practice. That does not mean you are instantly capable of diving into certain species, we were also specifically warned about coastal taipans. Taipans were also not present at any courses I have attended.

Maybe someone with more experience than my limited personal experience can also comment on the matter.

yes , i think i probably could have worded it better , what i was more saying was that its a lot more complicated compared to states like vic and tas , as im sure if the person running the coarse thought you where an idiot that wanted vens then they probably wouldn't write you a reference stating your at least competent , of coarse starting out with a tia is a stupid way to go , but at least you have to do some form of training , not just pay your cash and away you go

Sorry IV, all out of room ha ha. Well maybe we can fit one or two more :)

We got hammered by the first thunderstorms of the Wet on Saturday night while at No Name Creek. Magic.
