ive got a small problem that i was wondering if anyone could give some advice on?
i have a pair of pygmy beardies about 3-4 weeks old and i work afternoon noon/night shift, i feed them when i get out of bed (approx 10-11am) and i give them another quick feed when i leave home about 1:30pm but i dont get home until about 3 am, is this ok?....the care sheets i have read say 2-4 feeds per day is good for young ones and once a day for adults, i was just concerned because i only feed them twice and they are close together....any tips??

two big feeds is better then two little feeds. preferably 3-4 feeds. but if thats the best you can do. two big feeds will be fine. how much are they eating?

are you supplementing etc? what schedule are you light on/off? uv?

i feel like i bad mum now, i only ever fed one a day and i got mine at 3-4 months old, although i wasn;t trying to grow her up fast for breeding

uv is on at 7 am and off at 6 pm, heat is on full time so they dont brumate this season, they eat anywhere from 3-6 medium crickets each feed, supplemented with calcium/ vitamin powder every second day, i leave chopped up broccoli in there for them they dont seem to eat it though.....am i doing right by them??

leave timer set as stated...on but adjust to dawn & dusk...then add 1 hr for dusk as you stated these are hatchies & you dont want them to brumate....eg:eek:n 6am...off 7pm..similar but easier to adjust when adults next summer

when you get home....replace fresh greens...bukchoy variety leaves, lettuce leaves(not coz or iceberg)...
add grated carrot on top as garnish...(you can make this every 4 days-kept in a sealed bag it will stay fresh)
take out as much air as possible!

10:30am 1st feed.....hoping you use a separate feeding tub/tank!
12:00pm 2 nd feed...."" ""
1:30pm 3rd feed...."" ""

if they are hungry they will eat!

make sure you have there basking site heat at head height 36-38*.........cool end 23*
dont let their habitat go under 20* at night

if you are still worried.....there is nothing wrong with fresh dead insects..dusted with supplements
(MAKE SURE THEY ARE DEAD!!!!!!)
put these on their greens....approx 6 pr dragon.....they will smell the insects..should entice them as well

you sound like you are worried.....all would be concerned if you werent!
ide keep away from the broccoli at this age
this should help.....dont be concerned about the timing interval between feeds....just make sure the have enough heat to digest...as has been suggested

always feed in daylight hours!...D/L

I wouldn't be so fussy about when they are fed. Lets face it, in the wild there is no set feeding routine. As long as they get the right amount and types of food, and they have enough heat to digest it (don't feed any less than an hour or 2 before heat goes off), it really does not matter when they are fed.

lengthen the day. 11hrs of light is not long enough even with 24/7 heat. Go for 13 -14 hrs of light, especially whilst so young.

Also use small crickets, not mediums. They would be too big for 3 week old lawsoni.

Beardie salad

Dragon Lady, why do you say not to use cos lettuce?

It is also known as romaine lettuce, and according to the "Bearded Dragon Manual", it is the overall best green to use. Check out pg. 57 if you have it.
I use it almost every day, supplemented with other greens, fruit and vegetables.

Gonzo....
Coz...(Romaine) & Iceberg lettuce, has very little if no natural vitamins....but is great to help with hydration
thats why we all do use lettuce....in summer...
Reptiles...in this case we are talking dragons...drink very little & in the higher heats hydration is needed

With youngsters...hatchies...bokchoy varieties...also endive will give better nutritional value ..at basically the same expense than lettuce of any variety

I only use fruit or veg generally as garnish ...on top of the greens
& fruit only on top every other greens feed
Once mine are minimum of 12-16 wks...depending on size..they dont generally get greens every day

I do try to always include dandelion ,rose, hybiscus pettals..milk thistles where possible

Isnt the "Bearded Dragon Manual"....American?

Dragon Lady - Where does your information come from?

What exactly do you mean by your comment, "Isnt the "Bearded Dragon Manual"....American?"?
