I have a uni assignment due on the 24th March on recent innovations/emerging technologies in a chosen topic. All the topics I wanted were taken so I came up with Weaponry as I will need to teach it to kids at a "rough school" (I thought it'd hold their attention better than electronic fabrics lol).

I know NOTHING about weaponry... I have done a bit of a google search but couldn't really come up with anything useful since I have no idea what exactly I am looking for.

Does anyone know of any recent innovations or new technologies that are emerging in weaponry or in the military?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers, Ellie

See if you can find episodes of "FUTURE WEAPONS" on the web, ive seen some clips on YOUTUBE. You can also checkout the "AA12" full auto shotgun, "UAV" drones, and check out the latest types of non-lethal weaponry. Just some suggestions to get you rolling.

OOOHH yeah forgot about metal storm, anything that can fire a million rounds a minute is cool.

Watch Future Weapons (as suggested), Ultimate Weapons or just about any Discovery channel show with the word weapon in it.. They are all awesome haha
Cam

How about little drones the size of insects that shoot or inject deadly neurotoxins specially designed to target teachers?

Wish I had these at school lol sounds like a useful idea. I however don't think they will be made in the near future. I will start working on it at once.

Is the long bow considered revolutionary?

That made A HUGE difference to military...

Of course the equivalent of todays weaponry is the Rail Gun... Bah... these above weapon geeks now more than me....

 i would be suprised if it isnt being done, its too easy to not be a realistic thing(well apart from the teacher joke bit). The toxins in our taipans and browns snakes are trivial comapraed to what can be developed and easily delivered through what would now be simple robotics manufacture. Just joking the international governmnet wouldnt dare kill its slaves ;)

The US announce test of their unmanned drone stealth tactical air craft week or two ago.

Your right about the longbow, it certainly let the English deal out some punishment to the french. But i think its about recent/emerging tech. Doesnt state a timeframe though, how far can you go back, smart bombs, stealth planes, Scramjet engines, aircraft carriers, submarines, atomic bomb, mahine gun, muskets, long bow, recurve. Sorry i get carried away sometimes.

Not really revolutionary, but good for killing the English some time ago

I always thought it was the other way round... I'll have to look it up now... curse you Cris - you make me do work that I don't need to do!

As far as I am aware the long bow did some hefty damage to invading military and that was that!

Isn't the long bow where the two finger salute comes from?
From the French chopping off the English archers fingers?
Kids would find that interesting.... maybe....

Haha just mucking with you, the Welsh did use longbows to kill a heap of English though.

In modern times we salute with the middle finger and shoot with the index, probably what has gone wrong lately

My assignment doesn't state how recent, recent actually is *rolls eyes* ...tisk tisk on the lecturers effort to explain the assignment.

My understanding is that we have to investigate new technology that is still being discovered and developed... Like nanotechnology in fabrics, people have heard of it but not much is known about it in the general population, I only know about it because I have studied Smart Cloth in textiles... however someone else is looking into gaming, and how that technology has emerged into things like xbox kinect etc etc...

It's a stupid assignment that is worth 50% of the unit and I have to teach it to year 7 and 8 kids. They will have to develop an understanding of innovation and appreciate the impact on the individual, society and environment. (I have a headache just from typing that).

Weaponry in history isn't really relevant, as it isn't really an 'emerging' technology.

I really like the Raytheon XOS 2 suggestion! Will definetly be looking into that some more.. still looking at some others too.

A friend said they are developing guns and stuff that don't get hot? Can't really find anything on that though.
