Disclaimer: This is not a 'should I do it' thread, but rather a 'has it been done' thread.

Has anyone ever set their python loose in their roof to curtail a possum infestation? And if so, was it successful?

Hahahahaha, nah but my wifes uncle has a wild port mac that solves the problem for them :)

ahh not sure if your for real but who in their right mind would send a pet up to face multiple pissed off possums in a live attack - would be cheaper to pay a relocator and get the entry fixed rather than the vet bills or replacement of snake.:?

Not sure but I reckon possums would be highly flammable especially in their winter coats.

This, along with the recent 'Rat Nipples' thread have rather misleading titles.
I will neither confirm nor deny disappointment/relief.

oh hell no! I have problem possums and I'm not game enough to approach some of these ones here. that's just asking for trouble!

I would be very wary, I imagine that flaming possum wouldn't go down too easily... And your poor pythons would have some killer heartburn afterwards.

I've heard that putting snake poo where the possum sleeps can deter them from coming back as they think that a snake has moved in and don't want to hang around anymore....
the other thing they say to do is wait till the possum goes out for the night then fill up all the entry points into the house/roof.

I wouldn't risk letting my snake at it as the snake might get hurt and wild possums would have a lot of parasites which would be transferred to the snake, and how do you guaranty that your snake doesn't manage to escape or hide or disappear.

I don't think anyone would have tried it, and if they have, i doubt they would post about it..... it wouldn't be the kind of thing you want to admit too on a forum.

a trip to the local councel will yeild u a trap ;)

I have thought about raising carpet hatchies that would normally end up in the freezer to release into my roof to take care of the rats that annoy me every night. Im not joking!

I don't understand what you mean....carpet hatchies that would normally end up in the freezer...?? do you feed your carpets to something ??? Why would they end up in the freezer ??

A stupid electrician left a tile off the roof of our house once after he'd done some electrical work in the ceiling...a poor little black cat took refuge in the roof during a cold spell, and the council gave us a cage to catch it.

The best most effective way to remove possums from a roof that I have experienced first hand was a light on a timer in the roof that goes on at dusk and off at dawn. The houses are in the bush where they are surrounded by possums.

Chuck ya dog in the roof without a muzzle that will fix em. Other way is use an air rifle and go up during daylight when they are asleep and ping them behind ear, if your sydney side ill grab for food for mates olives

your in Melbourne but where abouts? my work has a few cat traps I could enquire on (know nothing about them I believe we supply some when required) only problem I can see is they are the heavy mesh type traps, steel would work much better and from the council means the ranger would usually collect them from your door from memory.
we have a possum collection service here too just can't remember who they are.
