Some snips from the PETA website. 9 reasons why buying snakes is a big mistake...

So we can't keep snakes because the Pet trade is Abysmal. Great. That really explains things.

These dimwits clearly haven't been to Australia Zoo.

Ah yes. We can't keep snakes because they aren't starter pets. You hear that Sdaji! Unless it's a starter pet you're not qualified to keep it. Sorry ?

Hehe, guess all my snakes are gonna die cause it's almost impossible to meet their specific needs lol.

We better stop snakes from eating rats in the wild now...

Hahahaha! Tell that to all my friends who come over to my place just to watch me handle big snakes lol. Never in my life have I heard snake keeping described as 'foolish'.

Haha! I wasn't trying to start a serious discussion, I just thought it was funny, but yes, absolutely, you're entirely correct and their rationale is completely absurd.

Haha, yeah they don't even deserve serious discussions. I'll just keep the flavor going then...

Peta - all animals deserve to live!
Also peta - it is cruel to feed animals to *carnivorous* animals

Peta’s website is just made up articles made in two minutes. They mostly contain: pets are cruel, animals should live in the wild, animals have rights.

These Leftists need to understand that having snakes in captivity is only doing good for snakes as a whole. Take a look at the rough-scaled python. What was once one of Australia's most rare snakes has now been brought into the pet trade and is available for keepers throughout Australia. This species has a FAR better chance of survival now that they are in captivity. And not only that, but I believe that the more snakes we have in captivity, the better off wild snakes will be. Keeping snakes as pets has given people a whole different perspective toward them. It breeds a passion and a love for that animal. I see so many non-dangerous snakes that have been killed just because of the bad rep that snakes have been given. Keeping snakes as pets and giving a chance for people to see the true nature of our beautiful species is going to stop a lot of unnecessary snake killings happening. We (herpers) don't keep snakes (or any reptile) just to make ourselves look cool or just for the sake of having a pet that's different, which is why I hate it when people say that reptile keeping is simply a hobby and nothing else. Keeping reptiles is a passion driven obsession. Groups like PETA seem to have NO idea about what's best for a species conservation, and only focus on the negatives. Any way that's just my opinion on the matter, but I think we can all agree that PETA are complete oxygen thieves.

Pythonguy1 you are correct in saying peta have no idea about whats best for a species, they also have no idea about conservation or sustaining any species. All they carp on about is how badly we treat animals without any thought about how well we treat our animals. Sure there are people who mistreat animals but these are the minority. Most pet owners/keepers treat their animals well, some treat their animals better than they treat their family. Clowns like peta deserve to be shoved in the bottom drawer and forgotten. Remember the mouse plague and these imbeciles said we should capture and release them.Apart from being impossible to do;Exactly how and where would this happen ? I heard some commentators say we should release them in peta's homes. PERFECT SOLUTION, that would shut these nutjobs up.

YES! It's certainly easier for PETA to make long winded speeches about animal abuse and crawl around in blood matted fur coats (seriously? That's their idea of what's best for an animal?). And at the end of the day it's the conservationists that keep reptiles who get blamed for the abuse. If they're so for "people for the ethical treatment of animals" then shouldn't THEY be the ones out their helping to conserve our wildlife? I absolutely agree, they would definitely benefit from having a couple thousand mice loose in their homes. Hopefully make them think for once...
