This little guy's mouth appears to be stuck in some sort of an open position and I'm unsure why. There was an attempted feeding session last Friday, but he chose to reject the food. This isn't too surprising as he had just come back from the vets for an unrelated reason (lacerations on his side). His scales seem to be improved, so I don't believe that to be the reason. I don't recall seeing the mouth stuck in an open position the last week or so, so I'm unsure why it appears to have happened now.

I do understand that after feeding, snakes can re-adjust / refit their jaw several times. He didn't eat though, hence the post.

Thanks in advance!

Can we get some information about its setup? because theres a dodgy shed in there aswell

This snake is very unwell and will need a lot of work to keep alive. It's significantly malnourished which may not be a big issue if all else is okay and appropriate feeding is introduced, but it has a mouth issue as said, and if it also has physical injuries you're facing a difficult challenge. A vet with any clue should have filled you in on what's happening (I'm not surprised, most of them are pretty useless and few are anywhere near as good with reptiles as an experienced keeper).

Yeah sure, he just shedded two weeks ago. (He cut himself on some sharp edges from an exo terra accessory, since been glued and resolved). As a result, I removed all the hidey holes and artificial vines from his container and put in a smooth bowl for his water bowl and a cardboard box instead of his old hidey hole. Just had a chance to clean out his container today and freshen up the newspaper etc (I've been pretty sick myself). Thanks for the comment about whatever is in his mouth, I wasn't sure at first but it's good to have some reassurance. I'll be taking him in Monday.

Thank you. The vet I take him to is experienced and recommended by local keepers alike, so I trust her. I believe this arose after the vet visit, perhaps he inflicted some damage on himself again in a different way, such as a strike against the container or when he attempted to feed? The vet themselves said that he was okay two visits ago, and a little less on the last visit, so I wasn't overly concerned about that, but I'll double check when I take him in on Monday.

Time to get some help from some local experienced keepers too, I think. What do you reckon?
