Is there by chance any way of linking the posts/threads to something like
MS spellcheck.
The spelling of late has reached the stage where I either give up reading posts or try 2 or 3 times to work out the words, usually I give up.

Examples from recent posts.

bin (been)
pews papper (newspaper)
tryed (tried)
quit (quite)
pritty (pretty)

The list could run into several pages and yes, I know APS members are of different ages and backgrounds ect and nobody is perfect, hence my question about spellckeck.........................................

If you happen to get a mods attention, inform them that I want the "snake bite" thread deleted :p

The new firefox and IE have built in spell-checkers but all it does is underline the word, you still need to know how to spell it correctly to change it. Besides, spell-checkers won't pick up grammer errors usually and "bin" and "quit" are real words, just with different meanings from the context in which they were used.

Is there an educational requirement to be a member?

Nev,

Your spell check request would be only partially effective against the errors you have listed. For instance:

bin - would not be picked up
pews - would not be picked up
tyred - would not be picked up
papper - a spell check would probably suggest pepper

A spelling/grammar checker would be more appropriate. Please disregard any spelling errors;)

Regards,

David.

I can't understand why people can't just PM a mod rather than start a thread on it. It happens with every bitch and moan someone has. What are you trying to do? Gather support? It won't make a difference. If the admins want to change something, they will. On the other hand, they might also decide against a change..

There is already a spell checker attached to the reply boxes. When you type a reply to any thread on the site look at the top right and you will see the spell check button.
I had a shot at someone a couple of days ago about the same thing. Had to read his/her post several times to make sence out of it..

I agree Nev, it annoys the hell out of me but it seems SMS speak is what gets taught at school nowadays and correct spelling and grammar aren't important.

Are you sure, i can't see it anywhere?

If you can't see it try this :

Click on User CP
On the left hand side click on Edit Options
Down at the bottom of the page you will see Message Editor Interface
Click on Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIVVYG Editing.

Then just click on Save Preferences.

Then once you start typing responces to posts you'll see the Spell Checker.

Snake bite was the original.
Snake bites is what the mods created & added a few comments from members of the original thread.
