    Some recent Australian highlights

Myself and my partner have been on a few herping trips lately and I thought id put up a few of the highlights. I'll start with the local stuff. I've just done a couple of pretty dismal nights herping around Brisbane so far. As there isn't too much to find I've been able to experiment with...

Herp pics (warning - pic rich!)

So this thread is composed of a bunch of reptile pics I've taken since back in October, through to now over a couple different trips. First off was a short night up around Newcastle with a couple of friends. This Rough-scale was one of the few snakes out on the road. Tropidechis carinatus...

Hunter Valley Sep 2013 "PIC HEAVY"

Hey all. I flew up to NSW last week for some herping around the Hunter Valley with a few mates. After getting off the plane, we went for a poke around some spots in Newcastle. First finds were a young Marsh Snake and She-oak Skink. Marsh Snake (Hemiaspis signata) by Matt Clancy Wildlife...

    Can anyone ID this frog??

We found this frog after heavy rain, in Avenel (15km north Seymour, Vic). My Field guide key suggests it to be Litoria tyleri, however its distribution doesn't come this far south. Would it more likely be a Litoria peronii?? Any thoughts?? Greatly appreciated

    Past Weeks Herping

Well while you haven't seen a hundred threads, that doesn't mean I haven't been out frantically herping every night since my last thread. I've finally gotten some pictures of some snakes and a dodgy shot of a leaftail which I promised myself I would get before making this thread. So here we go...

    Frog or Toad?

Tonight I went to take my dog, Dozer, out the back to go toilet in the backyard. Before I sat down, I noticed a cheeky little critter had stolen my seat! lol Here he is. Does anyone know if it is a frog or a toad? Is it a Cane toad? And if it is, is there any danger to the family or the dog...

    Mt Glorious

Made another short night trip up to Mt Glorious last night. Just after I suggested we turn around and head home because we'd found nothing, we came across this little critter halfway across the road, about to become DoR. Some kind citizen halted on-coming traffic and relocated it a short...

    Jervis Bay Frogging

Hey guys, just thought I would share a few of my pics from a quick trip down to Jervis Bay I made with some friends. Didn't get any rain but the ponds and swamps had water in them so we were lucky enough to find a few frogs. Several skink species around especially water skinks. Brown Snakes were...

A frog with a weird "laughing" call...

G'day guys, I seem to have what I think is a frog underneath an elevated shed in my backyard. It's quite a strange situation, and it weirded me out for a few weeks before I picked up on it. Whenever I would clean my rat and mouse tubs, I would tip the dirty water from the washing container...

    Recent holiday to northern NSW.

G'day All, I recently went on a brief holiday to Northern NSW (near grafton). I couldn't help myself, so some herping was done. We did a quick trip to Mt Warning and found these two species (new ones to me). Assa darlingtoni, the pouched frog. The adults can happily fit onto a 5c...

    Last nights frogging.

As some of you may know, on the east coast around Sydney last night it was hot and humid. So, as storms threatened, we jumped in my car and headed North in search of the elusive green thighed frog Litoria brevipalmata (as well as some others). Although I didn't photograph every frog we found...

Herping out Shire way: A short, illustrated story.

Last saturday night I did the exact opposite of normal folk, I headed away from population centres and went herping. I'd been planning to do this for a few days, and although the day started well (hot and fairly humid) it suddenly got cold as a cool change moved through. Due to the cool temps...
