I remember many years ago being told to avoid CFL for turtles because it could damage their eyes, is that still valid info or have they gotten better?

Currently I use mercury vapor bulb on the basking spot and a 4 foot reptisun T8 10.0 fluro for the rest of the tank (6 foot tank). I've positioned the MVB a little over a foot above the basking are to give about 35 degrees at that point, i was wondering if i could replace the MVB with a CFL and a heat lamp?

EDIT: Added pic

I can answer part of your question but you'd need to talk to Flaviemis Purvisi for details about turtles.
Yes Compacts have improved, there was a problem years ago that has been resolved. MVB's are a great lamp , I use them in several of my dragon enclosures
