Hi, I’m cal and I have a problem. Last year in September I got my own little blue tongue, who’s about 5 months old today! His name is Jupiter, and he’s got a little kink on the end of his tail.

Before i got him, (I got him when he was around 2 and a half to 3 weeks old) he wasn’t in the best condition. The guy I got him off of didn’t use ANY heating or uvb lights in his tank as it had been an unexpected birth (I’m guessing.) and until he got to me, he never really had any necessities. When I first got him, he was INCREDIBLY lethargic and didn’t respond to me even wiggling him around a bit, wouldn’t even open his eyes. After a couple of days of cold hard stress and heating, he seemed to be doing a lot better (he’s also very healthy now!)

I’ve heard a million horror stories about mbd and how owners can easily be mislead and accidentally end up giving their little scaly friend it. However, it is only the end of his tail and it doesn’t look like that at all to me, (hopefully)

I’ve included photos of his tail, ignore the tiny bit of unshed scales on the end. Because of how curved it is, he seems to have the most trouble getting that off. He gets proper amounts of calcium and vitamin intake, 5.0 uvb globe. Calcium twice a week. Pellets every day mainly.

Also, my mother claims that he’s had a tiny little kink since birth and that it’s just gotten more pronounced as he has aged, so maybe a deformation?
He also seems tiny REALLY hate anyone touching the end of his tail, and gets super stressed about it. That may not be because of the kink though, but can’t be too sure. Doesn’t seem to HURT him I think.
Any opinions please??

(Side note, he’s a blotched blue tongue. And there are no reptile specialists where I live, hence why I’m also on a forum.)

Thanks muchly !

Might just be me but I can't see any pics.

MBD is usually more noticeable with skinks in the spine more so than the tail.

Oh sorry, I’m uploading from my phone so maybe the photo didn’t attach quite right. Hopefully this uploads it, but yeah. It just curls up and around at the very end basically, so you think there’s nothing to worry about?

Sorry mate I've clicked on both attachments and neither has worked. When your home jump on your computer and upload one.

Most bluey's I have ever had have been really chill and never seemed to care how I handled them. I have also rescued one that was missing half his tail and to his ripe old age , it never grew back , but it didn't seem to impact him.

Good on you for taking in your mate's pet and treating it properly with care.

My bluey is the same with the wonky tail.
First 5 years of his life no heat, no uv, and an incredibly poor diet (mostly ice cream and fruit).
Despite all that, the last 7 years I’ve had him he’s been absolutely fine (although is very fussy with his food!)

Thanks man! That calms it a bit, I looked it up further and apparently it’s quite common and isn’t much to worry about. Helps heaps!

Hi Cal,

If it helps, you are closing the upload screen befor e the picture finished uploading which is why they are not showing.
