Hi everybody, this is my first post in the forums.

I got my first python today and would like advice on if I need to change the layout or features of the enclosure he came with

The image wouldn't attach for some reason so I've added the link above.

Cheers

Is that the thermostat on the RHS? Is it taped to the wall of the enclosure?
NO TAPE.

Yeah mate it is taped.
What should I do instead?

Drill a hole through the side of the enclosure just big enough or some other way that suits you. (Take a walk through bunnings with an open mind)
Using tape is a quick way to cause massive damage to your new reptile. Never use any type of adhesive to fix anything to the inside of an enclosure.

Okay cheers mate
The previous owner had it set up like that.
I'll change it.

Is the substrate pebbles/gravel? If so, it will be hard to clean and could cause abrasions on your snake
