thinking of starting up a breeding colony of crickets, just trying to get a few ideas on substrate.
Can they have a newspaper substrate with some 'cricket' tubs full of moist soil to lay eggs or do they need the soil all over?
i think it would be easier to clean if the newspaper idea would work

The shallow tubs of soil with newspaper as the substrate should work. Make sure you give them lots of places to hide and that you can put up with the constant chirping
