Found this little one in leaf litter/damp soil while dismantling an old aviarys, Pennant Hills area, Northern Sydney Suburb. It's about 200mm long. Will release it back when work is done.

Golden crown snake (Cacophis squamulosus). Is the belly orange-y red?
Nice find!

Yellowtail. The yellow/brown (sometimes bright golden) stripe along the sides of the head and across the snout gives it its name and confirms that it's 100% Golden Crown Snake (Cacophis squamulosus). Caught hundreds of them over the years. Not uncommon to drive the roads around here on hot sultry nights and pick up half a dozen or more in an hour or two. Also pretty common around where you live. Beautiful little snakes.
