I’m in Victoria and I’m thinking of getting a Macleays as a first turtle any advice

I own two macleays myself, I would advise to own a different species for your first turtle. I made the mistake of picking them as my first turtle and was told by a turtle breeder that they were for experienced turtles owners. I didn't listen to him and lost that first turtle.

Would you please message me an email address? I can send you a turtle care guide that has helped me a lot .

Yep, don't. Macleays are in the top 5 hardest species to keep successfully in captivity. They are very demanding and have zero tolerance for shortfalls in husbandry. They require nothing short of aquatic perfection when it comes to water chemistry and they have a specialised diet that you cannot short-cut.

Being in Victoria, you're much better off getting an ELN as a first turtle.

Yea don't I would recommend an ELN as a first turtle. Macleays are right up there they are not a first turtle by any means any stuff up in water chem or diet no matter how minor a macleays will not handle it well.

I have three macleay river turtles and they are my first species of turtle
