Mallee herping

I really want to go looking for reptiles in Victoria, I live in ballarat and I would love to see some wild lace monitors. I was thinking of going camping up at the hattah kulkyne national park this summer and hopefully see some lacies. Does anyone know an exact area up that way where it is a sure thing that I will see lace monitors? And at what time of day and that sort of thing. I have been told they have been see near the hattah lakes but I wanted to make sure they are there first rather than waste all my time going there. Thanks.
