Where is home for you? The Asian House Gecko has established populations from south of Broome in WA, to the Northern Rivers Region of NSW, and considerably inland in Qld and the NT.

While the animal in the photo appears likely to be an AHG, the of lack of photographic clarity in the diagnostic features casts a small shadow of doubt. It seems it could have a row of spines along each dorso-lateral edge of the tail. Each digit should be clawed. These claws should emanate from between the lamellae at the front of the digit, and not from in the middle of the expanded toe pads.

It's a local Marbled Gecko, Christinus marmoratus. Native Australian and common in a lot of Victoria (a more specific location is usually more helpful, but will do in this case).

It doesn't look anything like an Asian House Gecko.

Sdaji is correct.
My mistake and a salutary reminded that one may see what one wants to see if too predisposed to a particular line of thinking. Something to bear in mind for the future.
