Hi all,

New to the forum but not new to reptiles.

I'm originally from the UK and there is no licences or permits there for keeping reptiles.

I'm now in Qld and see I need a licence to keep reptiles, I am looking at starting up my hobby again over here and looking at possibly breeding also.

My question is what hoops do you have to jump through to get the different licences or is it just a case of paying more money (I know each licence has requirements post approval i.e reporting movements of animals etc) I am just curious to know if they want you to prove you have been keeping reptiles or proof of enclosure setups etc to be eligible for higher tier licences or is it just the typical money racket.

Also with the specialised licence you are allowed to breed but have limited trading within 6 months of acquiring a new animal, does this mean if I breed and get hatchlings they can't be traded for 6months?

Any info or input would be great.

My questions are referring to non dangerous animals in particular

There aren't really hoops other than paying your money, unless you want to keep something like venomous snakes.

The six month rule doesn't apply to animals you produce, only animals you buy/acquire externally.

The system is pretty easy to deal with in QLD assuming you're just wanting to keep basic species. Contact the department and they'll point you in the right direction for everything you need to do, which as you say is basically paying your money and then maintaining your records.
