Rare dwarf tiger snakes spotted
From: AAP

January 04, 2006

RARE dwarf tiger snakes have been spotted in South Australia's Flinders Ranges.
The sightings of Kreff's tiger snakes has prompted field surveys to find out where the reptiles are living in the southern Flinders Ranges.

About 14 recent sightings have been reported ? previously, only 18 records of the snake have been recorded by the SA Museum.

The Department of Environment says the creek-dwelling snakes have been spotted recently near Mount Remarkable, on the southern outskirts of Port Augusta.

"Kreff's tiger snakes are extremely rare and most likely a relic population from when the River Murray emptied into Spencer Gulf," department spokeswoman Julie Schofield said.

i have some great footage of these snakes...
the dvd is called "snakes, your number 1 phobia is here".
presented by rob bredle...
he says that they only feed 2 months every year
(thats why they are so small), and they feed primarily on tadpoles.
the footage goes for about 10 mins.
it clearly shows their size...
(he stands next to them)
and shows in great detail how they hunt.
if you like tigersnakes(like me), then pm ya details
and ill send you a copy.

oh there is heaps more footage on this dvd about chapel island tigers and other tiger species..
as well as many pythons (reticulated aswell with humans cut out of them)anacondas,
tipans, cobras, boas.
what ever.

they are..
spotted as in"they have been spotted over there"
id say that they are not rare but rather "uncommon"
they feed for 2 months every year so i guess when they are not breeding...
they are hidden away, sleeping to conserve bodyweight.
they only come out when the annual rainfall comes and the frogs start breeding.
the only way they could become rare is with human intervention..
but not many people venture that deep into the flinders ranges....
or "valley of the tigers" as it is known.

can i have a copy of that DVD ? obviously happy to pay postage to the UK i can even send you a DVD if you want
